This list of Prisoner of War Camps, Italian Service Unit Camps, and Prisoner of War Hospitals is based on weekly reports located on NARA microfilm #66-538 (population lists June 1942-June 1946). Additional locations based on newspapers, interviews, and other NARA records (at College Park and Regional Archives).
The POW Camps in West Virginia during World War II included:
*Ashford (Camp), White Sulpher Springs, Greenbrier County, WV (POWs originally buried here were transferred to Fort Knox Cemetery in Ft. Knox, KY)
*Ashford General Hospital, White Sulpher Springs, Greenbrier County, WV, now The Greenbriar Hotel, before and after the war
*Logan General Hospital, Logan, Logan County, WV
*Newton D. Baker General Hospital, Martinsburg, Berkeley County, WV (under Ashford, WV), now part of the Veterans Medical Center
*Rainelle, Greenbrier County, WV (branch camp under Ashford, WV)
Cemeteries:
Ashford General Hospital, WV (transferred to Ft. Knox in KY)
