This list of Prisoner of War Camps, Italian Service Unit Camps, and Prisoner of War Hospitals is based on weekly reports located on NARA microfilm #66-538 (population lists June 1942-June 1946). Additional locations based on newspapers, interviews, and other NARA records (at College Park and Regional Archives).
The POW Camps in South Dakota during World War II included:
*Belle Fourche, Butte County, SD (branch camp under Robinson, NE)
*Black Hills Ordnance Depot, Igloo, Fall River County, SD (base camp), renamed Black Hills Army Depot in 1962, closed in 1967
*Meade I (Fort), Meade County, SD (branch camp under Robinson, NE)
*Meade II (Fort), Meade County, SD (branch camp under Robinson, NE)
*Provo, Fall River County, SD (branch camp under Scottsbluff, NE)
*Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, SD (branch camp under Algona, IA)
*Yankton, Yankton County, SD (branch camp under Algona, IA)
