This list of Prisoner of War Camps, Italian Service Unit Camps, and Prisoner of War Hospitals is based on weekly reports located on NARA microfilm #66-538 (population lists June 1942-June 1946). Additional locations based on newspapers, interviews, and other NARA records (at College Park and Regional Archives).

The POW Camps in Alaska during World War II included:

Excursion Inlet, Haines Borough, AK (base camp)

Enemy alien internment camp:
Richardson (Fort), Anchorage city-borough, AK (Japanese)

Ft. Richardson, Anchorage city-borough, AK (235 Japanese cremations), Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (formerly Elmendorf AFB) now occupies the original (1940) site while Ft. Richardson moved to its current site, 8 km north of Anchorage in 1950, now Fort Richardson National Cemetery.

There was 1 base camp, 1 internment location and 1 cemetery in AK. More information in my latest book titled Prisoner of War Camps Across America and is available in Kindle format on Amazon and in Nook format on Barnes and Noble.
